I was a morbidly depressed child. At school I was bullied, at home abused. There were literally THOUSANDS of times an adult could have stepped in to advocate for me. But nobody did. No teachers nor administrators checked in while I sat alone crying. No doctor when I had broken bones asked questions about my safety. No nurses wondered if I was OK.
No store clerks as I was beaten in the aisles. No policemen who took my father in handcuffs asked me anything. And they certainly didn't ask when they let him out.
There's thousands of chances every day to stop abuse in its tracks. We're responsible for the well being of the people around us. We need to take an interest in the vulnerable & down trodden.
We don't stop there. To make the world a better place we have to do better.
We need to stop abuse funded by our own dollars.
We can't let this government to continue to abuse. Everything this administration does occupies the spectrum of abuse. WE ARE responsible for this. We can't be satisfied w excuses like "following orders". We can't be intimidated by the scale of the problem. We have to push back against aggressive policies that harm children.
We can't allow exhaustion or fear stop us. We have to step up & stop this corruption & violence that's being COMMITTED ON OUR BEHALF.
Funded with our dollars.
This regime wants us to be intimidated, afraid, hopeless. But THAT is our strength. Intimidation gives way to righteousness. Fear brings us commitment to the tasks.
Every time they try to stop us we keep going.
Because behind every act of violence & corruption there is a child who needus to raise our voices.
We can't look away. We have the power to use virtue to end this madness. It starts wherever you are.
Look and see. All around us. Every news story is about abuse.
Abuse of the land, air, & water. Abuse of the poor, sick, & needy. Abuse of children in cages.
We can stop this.
I want people to make connections between domestic abuse that they know is wrong & political policies that abuse us on a whole other plane. I'm hoping to serve as an example to those fleeing abuse & be a warning to abusers. We're ALL coming for you. #AllOfUsSurvivors
